aka

THE BLACK DAHLIA

In the early  morning of January 15, 1947, Los Angeles Police responded to a call from a citizen stating someone was lying in a vacant lot on Norton Avenue.

What they found was the nude, and dissected body of a young woman. her body washed clean of blood.

Her face had been been slashed from the corners of her mouth to her ears, resembling a macabre smile......

John Gilmore's "Severed" is the story of the author's investigation into the life and untimely death of Elizabeth Short.

It seems to some, including the LAPD according to the book, that Gilmore has linked together the murder of Georgette Bauerdorf and Beth Short to a tall man with a limp.

The man with the limp is dead. Killed before police could interview him.

Worth Reading           WARNING !!!

The book includes many graphic crime scene and other photos

William T. Rassmussen is an attorney who carefully lays out the evidence that the Cleveland Torso Murderer and the Black Dahlia killer are one in the same.

I have not read this book yet, but will receive a copy soon.

In the meantime, check out his website below !

The latest theory is expounded by retired LAPD Detective Steve Hodel.

While going through his father's belongings, Hodel finds a small book containing two photos he submits are of Elizabeth Short. (See for yourself but, I don't think so.)

He goes on to link his father to the Black Dahlia and several other murders.

Hodel's father is dead. No chance to  interview him.

Worth Reading, maybe check it out at the library.

Mary Pacios is a childhood friend of Elizabeth Short, and former co-writer of John Gilmore.

"Childhood Shadows" describes the life and personality of Elizabeth Short as a young girl from Medford, MA.

Her theory points to a well known actor, writer, and director.

The well known actor, writer, and director is dead. No chance to interview him.

Worth Reading - for the historical background of Elizabeth Short

Unless you're a true Dahliaphile, don't waste your time or money on this one.

Janice Knowlton believes her father, George Knowlton was the murderer of Elizabeth Short

James Ellroy's "Black Dahlia" is an LA crime novel loosely based on the Black Dahlia Case.

Even though this is  a "Fiction" novel, I found Ellroy's story an experience not unlike a terrifying ride on a supersonic roller coaster.

In fact, I've found myself so taken with the "Demon Dog's" writing style that I've become a reader of everything Ellroy.

Some of his other novels include Clandestine, LA Confidential, The Big Nowhere as well his personal search for the killer of his mother, "My Dark Places".

One lazy afternoon while vacationing in Lake Tahoe, I was looking through the magazine and book section at the local Safeway. I was surprised to see the mug shot of Elizabeth Short on the cover of a paperback novel.

I purchased and read the book immediately of course.

"Angel in  Black" is a FICTION novel. An all right crime story with virtually no resemblance to the Dahlia case.

Pick it up in paperback (cheap) and pass it on.
